Goodness of God: Assurance of Purpose in the Midst of suffering

I am going to go off topic for this post and review a book I was given to review. I chose Randy Alcorn because he is a best-selling author and I have enjoyed his past works.
If you have ever suffered pain, doubted your faith or wondered if their is a purpose to life, this book is for you. This is a quick read, only 117 pages, but a lot of truth is shared in this little book.
Alcorn doesn't give trite answers to our questions, he explores and explains a purpose for suffering, he explains where evil comes from and examinessin. "So long as we view evil as something outside us, we can view ourselves as victims, not perpetrators"..."the truth isn't primarily that we're sinners because we sin; rather, we sin because we are sinners." (page 23)

Another profound truth that Alcorn makes is " God doesn't merely empathize with our sufferings. He actually suffers.".... God paid the highest price on our behalf; we therefore have no grounds for believing he doesn't get it." ( page 47)
"In order to share Christ's honor forever on the New Earth, we must share his heartaches temporarily on the fallen Earth." (page 89)

Finally, "We are not positioned to know how much suffering is required to accomplish the best eternal purposes, nor how much it might hinder those purposes for God to make himself obvious."(page 94) While reading this easy quick book, I began to see a bigger purpose, a bigger picture of the world than my own perspective.

Whatever your perspective, I believe you will enjoy reading this book and coming to your own conclusions.

Sign up for RSS feeds of coupon blogs. There are millions of blogs that tell you the deals at CVS, Walgreens, Target and Walmart. These blogs will even do deals for you to save you money. They do the work of couponing and deals to get one free items and in some instances, give you free money.
Restrict buying on credit and give up credit cards as much as possible. No matter what you have been told, credit cards cost you money. Even reward cards cost you money. If you could stop using credit cards, you could pay off your debt and start living beneath your means. It is possible.
Start hobbies that do not cost. If you have a hobby that is costing you a lot of money, investigate ways to enjoy your hobby in cheaper ways. If you enjoy going to movies, check out twilight hours or ways to get tickets cheaper. If photography is your hobby, publish your pictures to the web instead of printing them. Or put them on one of the photography sharing sites.
